Have you seen my soul - a poem
69Have we lost our souls
Have we lost our souls?.. have we lost our humane nature? ..these questions rise up as an when we see people living life like there is nothing beyond them. The world has to wait for the satisfaction of their pleasure and be at attendance around them to make them happy. The selfishness of people, their blindness to the needs around makes me cry out... I have often silenced this voice, as this isn't the most pleasant voice that people like to hear. Today as I see the misery around, this voice seems to rise up and cannot be quelled. It refuses to die down, so I gave it expression. I hope it makes sense to you as you read this piece that comes from deep within.
Where are you my soul?
Where are you my soul?
Where have you gone?
Lost in the woes of yesterday,
caught in the busy,
labyrinth of today.
trying to making ends meet,
considering not the End,
traversing paths of pain,
just to live in vain,
dead to the life inside,
the life of the spirit within,
caught in the pleasures of now,
filled with lust, not love,
mired in the filth of life,
wading through debate and strife,
needing to prove that I am the best,
a life to detest!
Chasing after high ambitions and dreams,
deaf to the painful screams,
cries of need and hunger,
no time to linger!
Where are you my soul?
concealed in selfishness,
of a meaningless life so lived,
all for myself,
the only one to please,
I, me, myself,
everything else can wait,
while I, myself
worship and pamper,
indulge and slather,
while a whole world awaits,
for a single meal,
for a word of love,
for a sign of peace,
for wars to cease,
for man to become humane,
to live life without pain,
to peacefully coexist,
for greed to desist,
for a heart to give,
a simple life to live!
Where are you my soul?
deaf to the world around,
dead to the world within,
where are you my soul?
decayed in greed and sin!

Very nice!
decayed in greed and sin.... yeah a powerful message hidden in your words have you seen my soul ..
Both heavy, profound, beautiful. I believe my soul resides within. A hymn I heard a long time ago, "It is well with my soul." Peace. WITHIN. Seek first the kingdom of God. The Bible reads that the Kingdom of God is within, which, in my opinion does make it well with my soul. PS: The suffering of man and animal breaks my heart into humpty dumpty pieces. I get it. Blessings Always, Sparklea
You try to answer existential question in your composition. Loved your work.
Your contempt for the greed and narcissism of many humans is very powerfully expressed, sD. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and words.
You speak while many look away. Some call the poor lazy, only wanting hand-outs. Many souls are in pain all over the world. Leaders are full of greed and no longer hear the crying of their people. Will there be an awakening? Only time will tell. Thank you for sharing your poetry. It is heartfelt..
Beautiful poem Shalom.
Our deeds are becoming so inhumanely that soul is getting hidden somewhere...poor soul...lol
beautiful yet heart rendering since, spoken the truth!
I have tried giving justice to our soul by the hub...what happens to our soul when we die.
would love your views on it...thanks!
Dear Shimmering Dawn,
Thank you for your kinds words on my 'Turning Away' hubpage ;) I'm very blessed indeed to have encountered your soul in this lifetime ;D
I think for every soul on earth, it is a journey that each must take/experience to learn something from it. But I don't think all souls are lost. There will some souls who found/realized the pure/raw strength coming from within and they are able to outshine/overcome the difficulties in their lives. And there will be those who are still unaware of their own actions in real/virtual life.
I guess in moments of loss/depression/grief, etc, saying a little prayer for the self will be good for the soul and to constantly remind the self that there are loved ones who cared deeply about your soul.
For those unreachable souls, I could only hope that they will come to their senses one fine day...
Kind Regards,
Haikutwinkle

I seek to find, a worthy task, yet do not understand
There is no Soul to find, for indeed I "have" none such
But rather, AM Soul, wearing this body and these thoughts
As one might wear a coat against the elements
Awakened to this fact, I perceive Life anew
Seeing, yes, man's cruelty to man and beast
Yet also Love incarnate, the selfless helping hand
And understand at last the ancient adage: Man, know thyself
